Dear Mrs White [Go section editor],<\/p>\n
I enclose 3 typical entries from this week’s Film Notes written by Keith Jefferies.  None of them gives any information about the films; Mr Jefferies prefers instead to indulge in jokes of indescribable feebleness.<\/p>\n
Do you think this matchless rubbish serves any useful purpose?  It is baffling to those not interested in films and irritating to those who are.  The annoying thing is that a proper guide, also indicating where the film in question is showing, would be genuinely useful.<\/p>\n

ps. The Snapper is not, as Mr Jefferies appears to believe, a booker-prize winning novel.  Its author recently won the prize for another book.<\/p>\n

Addams Family Values (PG)<\/b> - Disturbing, \namusing and politically incorrect.  The \ndead guys win.\n \nAladdin (U)<\/b> - Arabian adventure animated \nby Walt Disney.  The hero wins.\n \nDemolition Man (15)<\/b> - Frozen and defrosted \ninto a politically correct future, Sylvestor \nStallone shoots Wesley Snipes.\n \nDirty Weekend (18)<\/b> - Michael Winner rhymes \nwith TV dinner and directs some passion and \nviolence at the seaside.\n \nHard Target (18)<\/b> - Jean Claude Van Damme \ndoes what he does in another violent film.\n \nHocus Pocus (PG)<\/b> - A witch (Bette Midler) \nis brought back from the dea in Salem.  \nThe good guys win.\n \nIndochine (12)<\/b> - Catherine Deneuve, Vincent \nPerez, exotic melodrama, Vietnam setting\n--I'll pass.\n \nJurassic Park (PG)<\/b> - Genetically-engineered \ndinosaurs run amok.  The marketing men win.\n \nLetter To Go (U)<\/b> - Peter Found's moving \nliterary classic had this reviewer in tears \n(of laughter).\n \nReservoir Dogs (18)<\/b> - Matchless rubbish \n(much like these reviews) directed by \nQuentin Tarantino, a man with obvious \ntalent (much like this reviewer) but \nsome serious problems (which is where \nthe similarity ends).\n \nRobin Hood--Men in Tights (PG)<\/b> - \nMel Brooks lampoons the merry men.\n \nSo I Married An Axe Murderer (12)<\/b> - \nMike Myers is the gullible groom who must \ndecide whether his beautiful bride is a \npsychotic loon.\n \nSommersby (12)<\/b> - Jodie Foster is the \nbaffled bride who must decide whether her \nhandsome husband (Richard Gere) is really \nher husband (?).\n \nSurf Ninjas (PG) <\/b>- Indescribable \nfeebleness prompts me to say this is an \nin-depth documentary into sun, sea and \nassassins.\n \nThe Fugitive (12) <\/b>- Harrison Ford \nruns away from the law.  Tommy Lee Jones \nchases him.\n \nThe Man Without A Face (12) <\/b>- Mel \nGibson directs a drama starring Mel Gibson \nas a horrifically scarred teacher.\n \nThe Piano (15) <\/b>- Surreal images \nstruggle in vain to cover up the fact that \nthis is a stupid film about the sexual \nfrolics of a dumb pianist.  Stars Holly \nHunter, Sam Neill and Harvey Keitel.\n \nThe Secret Garden (PG) <\/b>- Fairy tale-type \nbalderdash about an orphan girl who discovers \nthe makings of an enchanted compost heap.\n \nUFO--The Movie (18) <\/b>- The Snapper was \nalternately described as (a) a fish, (b) a \nphotographer, or (c) based on a novel whose \nauthor won the Booker Prize for another book \n(thanks to P.
